OCCUPIED TERRITORIES/SPAIN/SOLIDARITY
"Minurso can not stand still watching Saharawis exterminated", Mr. Taboada declares
Madrid, 01/11/2005 (SPS) "Minurso can not stand still watching Saharawis exterminated", declared the President of the Coordination of the Associations of solidarity wit the Sahara (CEAS-Sahara), José Taboada, on Tuesday in Madrid, underlining that Morocco "has no credibility to start an investigation on human rights", as Rabat announced after the death of Martyr Lembarki Hamdi, who ws tortured to death by the Moroccan colonial authorities.
In a statement to the press, SPS received, CEAS-Sahara asked the Spanish Government and the European Union to demand from Morocco "the respect of human rights in the territories it occupies since 1975", recalling that "the only crime of the late Lembarki Hamdi was to have claimed for the enforcement of the UN’s resolutions and for this they killed him".
"What is happening, everyday, in the Western Sahara under an accomplice silence of the Spanish Government is intolerable", Mr. Taboada said indignantly. He recalled that the European Parliament recent resolution has claimed from the Moroccan Government to "release all Saharawi political prisoners and to draw the light on the fat of more than 500 victims of forced disappearance".
Mr. Taboada also denounced the recent disappearance, in El Aaiun, of the President of the Saharawi Association of the victims of human rights violations, Brahim Dehan, who was abducted in the street and whose fate remains unknown.
"The repression of individual liberties and the illegal occupation of the territory are in fact the two faces of the same coin Saharawi people are suffering since 30 years", he concluded. (SPS)
