A great popular reception organised by Saharawi populations on the honour of Aminatou Haidar
Lemleihess (35Km in the East of occupied El Aaiun), 17/01/2005 (SPS) Hundreds Saharawi citizens, coming from the different occupied cities of Western Sahara and south of Morocco, organised Today a big popular reception in Lemleihess (35km East the city of the occupied city of El Aaiun) on the occasion of the release of Saharawi human rights activist, Mrs. Aminatou Haidar, reported SPS's correspondent on the ground.
"They came from everywhere, from Dakhla, Smara, Boujdour, Assa, Gilmine and Tan Tan and even Saharawi students came from Moroccan universities to receive their symbol of peaceful resistance, Mrs. Aminatou Haidar", stressed a Saharawi human rights activist to SPS's correspondent.
The participants to "this festival of freedom", the same source added, "celebrated this happy occasion without forgetting that 55 other Saharawi political prisoners are still under detention, an without forgetting that the Moroccan colonial authorities are persisting in their policy of systematic repression that cause more and more victims of arbitrary detention, abductions, tortures and intimidations".
During the reception, which took place immediately after the release of the Saharawi activist, the participants raised the flags of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, chanting Saharawi national slogans asking for the decolonisation of Western Sahara and the independence of their country.
In an intervention she improvised on the occasion, Mrs. Haidar hailed the Saharawi population for the steady support thee populations granted her and her comrades, Saharawi human rights activists and political prisoners.
She also called on the international community to put more and more pressures on the Moroccan Government to put an end to its systematic violations of Saharawi people rights to ¬ędignity, freedom, self-determination and independence", she said.
Saharawi human rights activists and political prisoner, Mrs. Aminatou Haidar, was released this Tuesday by the Moroccan colonial authorities after she served 7 months imprisonment in very bad conditions in the notorious Carcel Negra (black jail) in El Aaiun, it should be recalled.
Mother to two children, Mohamed and Hayat, the Saharawi human rights' activist was first arrested in 1987 and maintained under secret detention for 4 years in the secret detention camp PC-CMI in El Aaiun, where she underwent all kinds of torture according to many testimonies she gave since her release in 1991 like some 300 other Saharawi political detainee at that time.
Many Parliaments, international personalities and organisations adopted the cause of this young woman, who became a symbol of Saharawi political prisoners, especially human rights activists who are still under detention. She was even nominated by the European Parliament to its human Rights Sajarov Price, it should be recalled. (SPS)
